In the article Abortion: Overview, states that abortions have been an ongoing issue since 1962. Today, the controversies on abortion have increased immensely, due to medical research. The problem in our society today is that some women undergo and discharge the fetus after the first three months of pregnancy. Certain cases for a woman to have an abortion are financial necessity for the baby, the woman giving birth to a deformed child, or they have been raped. Although we are Democrats we see the Republican side that states that in abortion, the woman is killing a human that has different individual rights than those of the mother. We strongly believe that the woman, not the government, should have the right to choose what happens with her body. The solution we proposed was that abortion should be legal for the first three months of being pregnant. Women should not have an abortion after the first trimester, or three months into pregnancy. The solution that we proposed covers and takes consideration of the Republicans, Democrats, government, and the woman herself. Having the abortion after the first three months will cause an upset to the Republicans, because after the first three months it becomes a fetus. In the article Fetal Development, by the week 12-14 the baby has all his organs in place and starts pumping blood through the body. That means that it has a beating heart, the only characteristic that explains it is a human. Our solution of having abortion before the three months crosses off the concern that a woman is killing a human being. For the Democratic side, we are compromising with legalization of abortion. We saw that the woman should have the right to choose, but only before the first three months. The government has been having less problems over the years with abortion, since the table in Abortion: Facts & Figures, demonstrates that show abortion has decreased over a period of 22 years by 60%. This table shows only the legal documented abortions from 1973-2002. If the government makes a law stating that women cannot undergo abortions under any circumstances, then women would start getting abortions done illegally. This could cause a very big problem, considering most people who perform the illegal abortions do not have a medical degree. Most of the illegal abortions end up in the death of the mother as well as the child being aborted. One of the key ideas and very commonly ignored is the health of the woman during or after the abortion. It is very common that the abortion that has been illegally is unsafe and was performed without a medical degree as stated in the article Unsafe Abortion. In that article it shows that 80,000 women die from complications from unsafe abortions every year, and that 55,000 unsafe and illegal abortions occur each day. In the article Abortion Has Led to a Decrease in Crime, shows and explains with detail that abortions have decreased crime. It specifically said that there has been a decrease of crime rates since 1985. This is because the abortions have eliminated unwanted children that later in their lives become criminals. A common ground is the best solution for the topic of abortion, and how it should be handled. Common and combined ideas work best, for a one single solution.
